I am 19. I am frustrated of living in India. Here nobody maintains the law, everyone is aggressive and corrupt. I got admission to a good college. But from the very first day the very Indian term "ragging" started where the seniors harrass the juniors of the college. I was taken to a field nearby and beaten up. Unlike college everywhere Indian colleges don't have psychologists. So nobody could cure my mental condition. Then there is a strike every now and then and classes are abandoned for the day(sometimes two consecutive days). Unlike colleges everywhere else, you are permitted to honk near the college. We have classes where the sound intensity is around 120 decibel. Our syllabus was not even 50% completed. Then came the exams. But the papers got leaked and so the exam was postponed by 20 days. Then they made papers which were so tough that many failed(I scraped through). But now I am depressed. How can I escape from this mess??????

It is very unfortunate to hear this about India. In this forum, we completely understand your dilemma/frustration/depression.
You would have disclosed your college name here atleast. By the way where are you from?

To my opinion, if you wish you can bring the incident (beaten up) to your college principal to take further action (and if required you can request him not to disclose your name).

FYI, ragging is crime in india.
Please read the following court order by Supreme court of india on December 11, 2007
"Supreme Court on Monday directed educational institutions to adopt a "zero tolerance" policy to ragging and expel students found guilty of maltreating freshers."

hey man, sad to hear your dilema. India can be a rough and cruel place. Your choices would depend on your financial situation. I could propose a few routes for you but i would need to know more about you. For the time being i think you need to just focus on your own goals and not let your outside environment bother you too much. Try to do well in your studies, its quite important and perhaps you will not realise how important it is untill you get into the working environment. Don't worry about social status, what other people think, or following trends...you will see that all those things are quite meaningless. Just be strong, true strength comes from within.

If you have the money, i suggest you study abroad, if not then do well in your studies, go do some further postgrad studies and leave the country.

If you are genuinely unhappy, and I believe that you are, I would suggest completing the semester, get at least three or four official transcripts for future transfers, and apply to several different colleges in Great Britain or Canada. You have not stated your country of origin in your question. If you are from India, apply for an extended visa to study in another country. If from the U.S., simply get on a jet and go home. Sometimes its better to simply take a loss, count your blessings, and move on. Its time to move on. There isn't any sense in making yourself miserable. Its time to move on to the next thing in your life.

I realize that you are unhappy with the way things are right now, and that many tears have been shed over such bad experiences in India. It's ok to cry. People can be terribly cruel, and sometimes the people whom one would least expect to be unkind can turn that way in a blink of an eye, just like wild animals. I have seen it time and time again.

I remember when I was 19 years old - - I was sued for a huge sum of money for something that I did not even do, and it took over seven years for the case to go to court in the U.S. Every day of my life, for seven years, I thought about the idea that I might lose everything that I owned. At one point, I thought about ending my life. But I couldn't even do that, because I couldn't stand the sight of blood! Nevertheless, my case eventually went to trial, and I won. But I'll never be able to recover the seven years that I had worried and anguished over every single day! Those days are over. I lost my hair over worrying so much, and no man in my family was even bald! Worry can do a lot of bad things to people if left unchecked. Sometimes circumstances are beyond our control, and other times we have the power to change what is limiting our potentials in life.

So, perhaps India is not the country for you. Why not check out some of the other countries that you have always dreamed about traveling to, like Australia or someplace interesting and relaxing. Do an internet search. Dream big! You are only limited by your dreams.

Good luck with your journey through life.

No matter where you go, there you are. You will find problems everywhere in the world. India has lots of positives as well. Do you eat home cooked meals everyday? Cheap food? Cheap transportation? Strong friendship and family ties? Help with laundry and household chores? Filmi music playing on every corner? These are things I LOVE about India. Do not take for granted the seemingly little things because they are bigger than you might imagine. Seek out what is positive because escaping just has a new set of big challenges.

Anyway.... what's with the thumbs down? But if you want to know which countries are easier to get into... try AUSTRALIA. Canada and America are quite difficult. I know many people who have tried to get into each. Australia is by far the easiest out of those 3 and the working conditions are really good.

You could apply to an American College and get a student visa that way. Then you can try and apply for a citizenship here in America. It will take a long time but it's worth it. Look at the link below--it has some info on visas.
Ireland is also a really friendly country and easy to get a visa to.

Or you can try and change your country yourself. Change comes from within and it could start with you.

Why the hell are you in India in the first place? They won't help you there. Government ain't very good. And if college's that rough, then people with authority won't do anything about it. Transfer to a place where people actually cares about getting sued. Like Europe or America.
