You can use the 'deep litter system' which involves putting an extra thick bed down and just removing the dropping and soiled areas on a daily basis. The only problem with this system is that it will require a complete removal of the bed at the end of the winter and this can take ages. The stable will also need to be thoroughly disinfected and left to air and dry for a couple of days.

Failing this a daily muck out will be necessary, with a more shallow bed and complete removal of most of it on a daily basis. The advantage is that bedding that is still good can be moved to the edges of the stable and the area is given a good airing on a daily basis. The new bed is put down each night.

I have used both in the past, but prefer the daily muck out system if horse are out overnight as it reduces the amount of mould spores that can affect the horse's health. The deep litter system is better for horses kept in all the time as it reduces the daily workload.

As often as needs be; it's not a case of "how long" but "how much" i.e rather than mucking him out after being inside for 48 hours you muck him out every 2nd day.

Every day as per your other question. Dont allow the bed to become sodden and filthy as your pony may contract thrush.

well u can either clean out the stall in the morning after u take it out, or u can clean it out before you bring it in at night. it really depends on u. u could be busy in the morning.
But u definitly need to clean it out once a day.
