Aquamax super absorbent pellet bedding. We use this and its great.

Do not use red wood shavings...the sawdust it creates is dangerous to the respiratory system

newspaper, straw, shavings, woodchip. We use peat (a type of soil) that is absorbent, warm and dry (not muddy - it brushes straight off a grey coat!). It is expensive, but good value. We also put rubber matting underneath it, since oour stables have cold concrete floors.

We always used straw, but I bet you could use cedar, like a hamster.
