... have an advantage because they get more used to the vagaries of travel so its not a shock to the team when they do have to go on a long road trip.

Consider this, most teams start their home games at 7:00 or 7:30. If you are on a west coast team visiting the east, you are used to pacific time, which means your game starts at 4:00 or 4:30 in the afternoon. If you are on an eastern team, playing in the west, your road game starts at 10:00 or 10:30 and finishes about 1:00 am. I would have to think that is a huge disadvantage. All eastern teams play their home games and most of their road games within the eastern time zone, while the western conference covers all 4 time zones. So the west has more opportunity to get used to hopping across time zones.

New Jersey just traveled to Vancouver for a game and lost 5-0 it was the first time they have been out of their time zone in over 100 games but come play off time most east coast teams sleep in their own beds so I think it favors the west coast because it gives them more of an edge

Teams have been using that excuse for years. But look what it did for Ottawa last year....zilch.

There was also an awful lot of talk about the fact that after the first 5 games of the season, the Boston Bruins play the remaining 77 games in the Eastern Time Zone.

With the re-jigging of the schedule next year, we may have a better idea.

Absolutely. I've heard Detroit players interviewed about it as, until this season, they were the most traveled team in the Western Conference. "Jet lag" affects us all, but from what I understand, it's worse coming east and changing time zones than going west. I don't think I would want to start playing ANY sport at 11 PM eastern time, though!!

Judging by how west coast teams seem to be kicking the crap out of east coast teams left and right I'd say no

Considering that the West has won more cups in the last 10 seasons that it was awarded, I will say no. West has won 6 of the last 10 cups. It cannot be effecting them that badly.

Not really. Edmonton beat the Rangers last night. This could come into play more during the playoffs.

Actually the opposite, for your exact reason. Westies are so used to the travel, that 82 games of it has no effect, whereas Easties get bogged down, due to the lack of foresight and training, and get the jetlag.
