well, the athlon x2 has to cores both running at 1.8ghz totaling
3.6ghz and the p4 ht has only 1 core.

with new operating systems like vista and new next gen games,
you would be better off getting the athlon.

but with all older software and windows xp, you would get about the same performance with the two.

only new software can actually use the new dual core technology unlike older games and windows xp.

so, if you use older software, the p4 would be faster.

if you use vista and new software/games, the athlon will be faster.

In a pinch, this is like comparing apple to orange, x2 is a Dual Core, 64-bit pair set while P4 HT is just single 32-bit core.

If you do plan playing old games compiled and sold in 32-bit that specifically mention 3.2 or similarly high GHz then that P4 is good choice, but that is pretty much the only criteria favouring that P4, otherwise go for the Athlon.

Of course, Athlon 64 X2. Although the Pentium 4 clocks higher but the performance still low due to the single core and not energy effective. Athlon 64 X2 which is design to be energy effective (which means low clock performance is equal to the higher clock one) and dual core will be faster.

Athlon x2 1.8 means 3.6GHz

But Intel Pentium 3.2GHz will be better and faster and more reliable.

Note ht means hyper threading so it works much faster actually.
So go for Pentium only.

Thank you.

3.2ghz will always be faster than 1.8ghz no matter who makes it.....even if it's dual core or quad core, each core only runs at the rated clock speed
