i'm in oz, i'm not sure what the national total is, i didn't quite catch the news, but we have a 10 yr high of car deaths, and house fires are tearing the hearts out of communities. it has dampened my christmas spirit and am grateful that my family are all staying home this year.

Have a thought for the various police guys on duty over Christmas. Although I dealt with many a fatal accident over the years...there was nothing worse , at this special time of year, than walking up the relatives path...seeing the bright Christmas lights and bringing them bad news.

Very bad.
I am in Ireland and the roads are like a death trap. There is so many that still don't obey the rules and drink drive, speed etc etc. They can do what they want to themselves, they have no respect for life therefore I have no respect for them. But putting other peoples lives at risk is horrible. I am 24, I have just been learning to drive a few years and I have seen some lunatics on our roads, it is really scary. My boyfriend has a 20 mile trip into work and I go crazy if he does not let me know that he arrived there safe! There has been 4 people killed on our roads in the last few weeks (sounds like a few but it is only 1 county and it is getting serious)...including a 39yr old American doctor with 3 kids....very very sad. Like you, I am glad my family is going anywhere this Christmas either.

I am in West Oz and the road toll is over 270. I still remember when the national toll was in the 40's and that was all over Oz. It is so sad. I nearly lost my husband in a drink-driving accident (he wasnt the driver) and I am 100% against drinking and driving. There is no excuse for it, if no designated driver available then there are plenty of cabs. It does make you frightened to be out in your car. I would also like to wish everyone a safe holiday season.

It's bad here. Took me 2 hrs. to drive 1/2 mile and get a card and come home. The ambulances are going all the time so I'm sure there's been some deaths and serious injuries. They are driving like insane people and it really is a wonder there aren't more accidents.

Things here are pretty calm for now, but when we get a big snowstorm some people think that they can drive as usual and they are the ones who cause more accidents. I need to venture out to the store today and I am not looking forward to all the traffic, but all in all, most drivers are courteous. Have a safe holiday!

People are losing it like I've never seen before. The drunks are trying to go home to the wrong adresses & getting angry when their keys won't open the locks on the door! We called the Police twice the other night...The roads aren't bad yet. That will happen Sunday night & Monday. Shootings seem to be up in my area again. Guess I'll have to get a gun to keep up the pace!

The holiday road carnage continues over here too and we will be a part of it soon. Heading out today and crossing our fingers and toes.

I live in NM and we seem to have at least one spectacular crash that kills a group of people. There ususlly seems to be a few single accidents that kill people. There also seems to be a few spectacular family incidents. I think most of it is probably due to people not drinking responsibly. We generally stay at home also. We sometimes have our holidays on another weekend. Also due to work schedules

Roads are terrible here in northern Vermont. Just the other day I had a moose step out in front of me, and he didn't even use the crosswalk! Well, I'll tell you I was so mad at him I laid on the horn. And do you know what he did?? He had the nerve to give me the hoof!! I'll tell you I don't know what the world is coming to! Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!

Luckily, I live in a small town, and we truly don't notice much of a difference. Our forecast is for rain today and freezing tomorrow, so that could all be subject to change since people will be hurrying to do last minute shopping.
