I'm not aware of any myth, but I think it may fall under signs & omens. Of course signs & omens are tricky. I'd suggest meditating one what it could mean to you.
Start with basics, you've got waste on your door step. Could be there are things in your life you need to clean up,
or taken a step further, there is someone in your life that is bringing waste to your doorstep, metaphorically speaking.
The main thing, in my opinion, is first deciding if it seems like some sort of sign or if its just a random happening. Then if it does, see how it can be a metaphor to your situation.

The myth it's about you stepping on them (they say in means that money it's on the way.) I don't believe that kind stuff.
I would change the door mat.
