and you say Merry Christmas back, do you feel as you are just being friendly or you are rubbing it in their face, that you are christian and proud?

I ask this becuase the other day, after I checked out at block buster, the woman said "Happy Hannukah" to me.
So I said "Merry Christmas" because thats what I celebrate.
And she gave me like a death stare!
So I was wondering if she thought I was trying to rub it in her face or something.

Why do you feel the necessity to "rub it in their face"?

You don't have to be a Christian to celebrate Christmas, first of all. Secondly, I've never had someone wish me a Happy Hannukuh. When someone wishes me a Happy Holidays, I return the sentiment, the same if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas.

EDIT: I guess I didn't answer the question quite correctly. When I wish someone a Happy whatever, it's just being friendly. I would have done the same thing you did, she wished you a Happy Hannukah (clearly she celebrates it), and you wished her a Merry Christmas because that's what you celebrate, I see no problem with that!

I don't think about it at all...I just say whatever I feel. It could be "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or "The same to you." It's mostly an automatic response. While Christmas was originally an Christian holiday (and a lot of people celebrate the religious aspect of it), there are people who celebrate it as a secular holiday. I don't ever think about the religious connotations when I say, "Merry Christmas". It's usually said with the intent of being friendly and festive.

Nope I say Merry Christmas or Happy Hannukah back. I refuse to not say Christmas, that's just wrong.

I would say, "Happy Holidays" back to them. I understand that fact that not everyone is Christian, and not everyone celebrates Christmas. But if someone says "Merry Christmas," then of course I say it back.

I am telling them Merry Christmas, and if it offends them, they can go take a long walk off a short pier. December 25th is not Hannukah Day, Holiday, Kwanssa Day or any other day, it is CHRISTMAS DAY.

I normally repeat back whatever is said to me. I celebrate christmas but i'm not christian, and if I was, I don't think I'd say it because I was proud.

I think its just being nice... just returning a greeting.
Rubbing it in there face or shouving it down the throat would be if you greeted them back and started preaching.
