It is a modern rendition of a previously written song. I can't seem to make out the melody nor the composer though.

It's definitely not Bach.

I agree with the first answer: it sounds like one of a set of variations on a theme. It could also be an pedagogical piece, like an etude, study or exercise.

It's not Bach, it sounds not like Bach.
It's a variation. To me, it sounds like a Brahms variation. Very "classical" in form but with the romanticism power. I bet on Brahms, but I'm not sure about the work (maybe "Variations on a theme by Corelli ?)

I would speculate - and it is only speculation - that it's probably a variation, or set of variations on a theme; written by whom? classical or early romantic composer.
