Faranak the soul progresses with both sorrow and joy. You can't have one without the other.
You do not know sorrow if you've never known joy and you cannot recognize joy if you've never known sorrow.
For your soul to progress both sorrow and joy must be in your life, otherwise you are static with just one and not the other. You do not grow on only one of them.

The soul progresses from feeling what it feels. Love is the catalyst that makes us feel our feelings. However, when we feel our feelings and when we have love, we grow, and that is painful at times bringing sorrow. So both happen if the soul is progressing, but love is the engine.

Well, God knows the answer to this... but I feel that in joy we forget ourselves and in sorrow, we tend to introspect..... therefore it seems logical to believe that the soul progresses faster and better in sorrow.

As with anything there is good and bad. There are lessons to be learned from sorrow but God warns us not to wear the spirit of sadness for too long. Learn and move on.

If we didn't experience sorrow, we wouldn't know what joy is. I know that this is hurtful to us, but apparently necessary, so that we know when we are well off.

We learn more from making mistakes than we ever can from perfection. Happiness is nice but it only provides the nutrition of a candy bar to the soul.
