just wondering which would be better using two identical 1gb DIMM or a single 2gb DIMM

it would depend on your current computers specs. my computer can't hold more than 1 gb ram on one slot so i have no choice. but you may want to use the single one if your motherboard allows as it would make a grater upgrade possible but in any case 2X1 gb is faster than 1X2gb

do the math if you only had 2 slots and you bought 2 x 1 Gb sticks, or use one slot with 1 x 2Gb stick, what would be your answer if you wanted to upgrade? oh generic brands are cheaper and work the same.

the smaller and more ram chips you have, the faster your system can access the memory because it's not all stored on one, but shared amongst 2 or 3 or 4!

think of it like a freeway. single channel is one lane. dual channel is two express lanes.

It is exactly the same thing is just that some cpu's have only space for one.
