i would prefer to select tickets on www.kayak.com or www.sidestep.com these websites are kind of search engines and they don't sell tickets by themselves. They find the site which is offering lowest prices and also do a price comparison. check them out.

Another thing I found out is, you can check www.virginamerica.com they fly to SFO. And might be pretty cheap too.

This is an important question you ask, because long-haul flights can be very expensive.

The answer, however, will change from day to day, because airlines are constantly competing with each other, and consequently changing their fares all the time.

What you need is a "roll-up" site, so called because they search many sites for you simultaneously. My personal favorite is Kayak.com. They search all the usual suspects like Expedia, Orbitz and CheapoAir; but also the airlines' direct site. In this way, they do all the work for you.

Moreover, they have a handy feature that will send you email alerts if the fare drops for a particular route you've chosen. Kayak will even tell you which days are the cheapest times to travel.

And no, I don't work for Kayak; I just love their site. I used to travel for business with a large group, and we'd play a "game" in which the person who found the best fare won dinner compliments of the other players. I won many, many free meals because of Kayak.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
