strange as it seems people have been doing this for a long time and it will be worse because of the loan sharking that was did by the big mortgage lenders and banks, a lot of people got sucked into this trap when the banks and loan company's knew the pit falls, and this B.S. about these institutions going under is a lark, say 10% of these houses go into foreclosure there are hundreds that are still paying their exorbient increase in interest, it is strange how they can manipulate the books and show a huge loss while pocketing millions of dollars, as one person said a long time ago , " the pen is mightier than the sword" this is just another way for them to get a welfare hand out from the gov, which is you and I while they sit on their arses and laugh at us stupid serfs,
doubling up in a house hold is not uncommon, especially during hard times and not only for Mexicans ,,

Adjustable rate mortgages are a trap; people get into them because they start paying low mortgage rates, but then the rates go up and whamo! They get clobbered and they canot afford the higher rates no more; Well, they can always rent and still have a home to live in. Is not the end of the world.
Oh, I am a new homeowner too, but I was smart and I took a 30 year fixed at 6.5% and even though I am scraping by, I have a home that I can call my own.

Even people who took fixed rate mortgages are losing their homes because property taxes are going up to offset the loss of federal funding for social programs. If you don't help the poor, then many of them will help themselves to your stuff!
Because of that fact, states have to help the poor even if the republicans running the federal government won't. The church definitely isn't doing it like it was suggested that they would, but then, they never have been much help to the poor. They make token gestures while using the bulk of the money they collect to buy property.
Jobs are disappearing and being replaced with low paying service industry jobs that don't pay enough to make house payments.
Slaves used to lived together with multiple families in one home. Plenty of working poor in this country have to do this in order to take care of their elderly family members. Illegal immigrant workers ( neo-slaves ) pile up as many people as they can fit into a house.
The days of the american middle class are numbered. The middle class is a real threat to elitist domination of the planet so the next step is to eliminate the middle class.
If you still have a good paying job today, I suggest stuffing money into your mattress and saving for the day when you lose your job and home llike far too many americans already have.
Fear not, though, king bush has declared that the economy is doing great even though many americans are gettting sent to the poorhouse by the trickle-down economic policies of the republican party. What's one more lie to a guy like bush.

The foreclosed homes will be sold by the banks, probably at bargain prices, so people will still live in them, and prices of other housing will fall until everything is occupied so people on average will not live any more crowed that they do now. Supply and Demand works for housing as well as other goods.

I think that's already started. However, I can't imagine it becoming similar to Mexico or any other country where it is prevalent to have more than one family living in a house. I think it will happen, but only for a short while.

it's already been that way for years and if hasn't for you you must be rich, and i wish that apartments would let people bunch up that way so i could have my family around me too many poor people are separated from their families because of the politicians not helping the poor to actually have houses for their families.

It will become more and more a reality because baby boomers used property as their latest get rich quick scheme driving up prices while keeping wages flat. In California you have to work multiple jobs just to pay your over priced rent. As our taxes continue to rise to support all of their retirement entitlements more and more families will have to pool their resources to just get by. Welcome to the Third world America
