which is the best knowledge: book smarts or life learned smarts?

I did go to college and have a BA. I have several friends who have Master's in one area or the other and because of this they put on airs. Like when you are in conversation with them they try to make people feel less worthy because they have a Master's. And will say well I have a Master's in whatever so of course I know what I am talking about. I always come back with yea but why you were in school I was getting a Master's in life and living. I am sometimes embrassed by the things they say in public because they are not being nice and are putting people down. What should I say to them to stop this?

A combination of both is great. However, if you want to get the best chances and opportunities of employment a college degree. However, a degree does not make one better than another. And your friends that have Masters should have more sense than to act so ignorantly. Since you have a Bachelors Degree, the Masters is a no brainier. Go for what you know... God bless****

You'll never get anywhere without one balancing the other. Some of my friends from grad school continue to whine that they can't find an academic job while I have a full-time position in a field I have no intention of continuing in (I'm currently going after a PhD in another field). They're clueless as to how the real world works, caught up in nothing but their academic clouds.

Likewise, streetsmarts that aren't complemented with at least minimal booksmarts will never get you anywhere.
