Our mind and body only craves for something we dont have. Thats how it is designed and nurtured. Because of this we have desires, desire for something we dont have. The same phenomenon applies for not having value for something we already have, because we crave and care for only something we dont have.

Desires is good for one's soul. Its what make one's soul feel alive. If we don't put in affords to archive our desires, we will not have the sense of satisfaction. If we don't sense the value after struggling, well, I think you must re think of your priorities and desires. Ask your self what do you want in life, make the right choice for your self. Is this want you want in life? Then go for it. If you made a mistake, climb up and make it right. Once you archive it, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, because thats what you want.

Desire is the basic nature of 'life', the nature's 'trick' to ensure procreation. Now, due to that self-awareness, humans make a very complex 'web' out of it, and spin faster than a spider, getting caught in one's own web of desires!
The other living beings become peaceful, calm, once their basic wants, urges are fulfilled.
Some people for whom this question occurred (like it did to you !) , became intensely involved and used this self-awareness to now exercise this desire as a matter of "choice", consciously, and in full awareness. Such people could move into deeper levels of consciousness, and experience life more deeper, more intensely, and way beyond the sensory levels. When others 'happen' to chance discover these people, some attributes like 'saint', 'santh', etc accrues!

Fantastic Question..! which, I have ever come across in this forum. I too think the same way, and I realise that it is too complicated to answer that Question as my experience says so.

You can not desire for something intentionally. They will insist you and you feel as if you are pressed by some force, and you do the things even though your consious does not support or agree and then regret.

Regret for not being able to proceed further as Iam observing the same for past some time and may keep you posted once get the updates.

I appreciate and welcome you to my yahoo messanger if you want to explore more on this together.

The human existence is a mixture of wants and needs. One cannot help feeling either, but we are at least able to control these desires to a point. Asking why we have desires is like asking why the grass is green. We can explain it, there is a reason and it just is.

We desire because we want it. We want it because we feel that if we have it, we'd be satisfied. And once we're satisfied, then that was all we wanted. Sometimes, we won't feel like it's as valuable as it was before after we receive it because we've already got what we needed. That's what I think because if you compare that to say you really want an expensive ipod so you work overtime for extra cash to buy it. After you get it, you put music in them, take them everywhere with you, and then eventually start to not care about how much damage you put into after your first accidental drop.

To fulfil and evolve to higher and higher reaches of human possibility. If we feel stuck, not moving up then we feel it a waste or a mere struggle

Everyone has one or the another desire in their life which makes every one to work for his survival, if a person never feel hungry, then he will never work and this world would not nave developed or progressed so much and we would have been still in stone age, remember desire is god's gift.
