These days even the silence is noisy as you try and get the
distractions out of there. Becoming a hollow bamboo takes
skill and patience. There's really no silence anywhere but
in the grave and even then I will question it. I live in a very
quiet place and this morning alone this is what I heard:
Chainsaws, hammering, barking dogs, cars, a garbage
truck, a fight between my cat and an interloper, water
boiling, heat coming out of the register, birds pecking
away at the redwoods, finches at the feeders, and the
ringing in my ears that mysteriously comes and goes
at will. Silence I say. The happiest of holidays to you
Rena. Thank you for all your thoughtful and provocative
questions. Have a great New Year.

Whenever I want to be alone, and away from the Noisy Humdrum that surrounds me constantly, I usually go inside my Room, and I surely can embrace the silence I enjoy having with my Personal thoughts. For some reason my Room always gives me a lot of Tranquility, and Peace, even though some might say no, I disagree, whenever there is a problem with our Household I always retreat into my Room and I can feel some comfort when i am in there.

too much of anything isnt good but there moments where silence is gold and in such moments you can really embrace the world around you and really feel certain things more so without any noise or interruption. silence sometimes can allow us to think more and experience more then we would have been able to otherwise. it could be the silence moments we experience after a hard day sitting alone or when we're with someone and its a comfortable silence and nothing has to be said or done. Theses are the moments the world somehow seems to hold more meanings suddenly.

In Meditation, you can hear precisely what you want; whether it is the constant murmur of the earth or a total absence of noise. It is very possible to embrace the silence and the most
beautiful thing! With practice, you can do this while waiting for the subway "in awful noise" or anywhere else! I know I can do this easily though, for I've been meditating for a very long time! I wish more people would, this bring so much peace in a person... Thanks!

Isn't hearing a part of your one, Sencory Organs, and as your 'S.O' are apart of you body and your body is controlled by your 'Brain'.
Doesn't that mean, your 'Brain' has overiding control of your 'S.O's'.
Therefor if the Brain wants Silence, and your sitting in front of a full Philedelphia Philharmonic Orchestra. That is in the middle of Tzhaicovsky's 'Blue Danube'. you can turn yourself off and do the final editorial of your 'Homework', for the week.
By the same token, you could be sitting in St Paul's Cathedral in prayer, and get mortified. By a barking dog outside, a dog you can only hear when the wind blows the curtains the wrong way.
So silence and noise, are dependent on you and what you want.

Yes, I surely can. I grew up in a large city, in a big family, and the noise would just drive me crazy.
Funny, though...now (living in a much smaller place, and with less people around), I can't sleep without the TV or music on.

Silence & stillness are highly underappreciated by most people. Those who are happy & at peace with who they are, dont need the constant distraction of noise in their lives. I find such people far better company then those whom never shut up.

Yes. More than I have done in the past. Sometimes, my ears definitely need a rest.
