I have dust bunnies living under my bed. They don't take much care at all. They only need neglect and they will take care of themselves and get bigger in the process!

Well, in your room you want quiet while you sleep.
Good candidates:
Rats (excellent pets!)
Bearded Dragons
Leopard Geckos
Betta--All fish tanks, if you can sleep through the humming of the filter etc.
Guinea Pigs
Zebra Finch
Parakeets
Cockatiels
Russian Tortoises
Chinese Box Turtles
Avoid (because they're nocturnal and awake and noisy all night)
Hamsters
Chinchillas
Hermit Crabs
Ferrets-- They aren't cage pets (but they should be caged when you can't watch them). They're more like cats who need plenty of running space
Any and all of the larger parrots. They don't fall asleep in the dark and may keep you up (screaming) all night.
Fire bellied toads and most frog species will croak all night.
YOU NEED TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!!
It's part of being a good pet owner, and I listed too many to discuss.
Good luck.

I would go to a small pet shop nearby and talk to an employee. they will help you make your decision and inform you on everything you need to take care of your new pet. It couldnt be a dog or cat. Rabbits are destructive if left out and will eat your things. It has to be something small. Or if its big it should probably have some sort of tank. You could have mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, guinie pigs(i hear they smell bad though) lizards are pretty neat, small snakes. If you are brave, big snakes or scorpions. Parakeets are good pets! or maybe you could put together a fish tank? a saltwater one would be cool with some big fish and eels and stuff:-) good luck

if anything other than fish, I would not go through a petstore! Go to a breeder. As for what can live in your room, it depends on you, do you want to play, or watch, daytime or nocturnal? Make a list of many many animals as people have repeated on here, and then do research on them and then figure out which one is the right one for you. P.S Chinchilla's make great pets! 2 is even better!

A pet rat - my son had one for four years and she was very sweet and never bit.
You can easily train them to do tricks. They require very low maintenance, they're not jumpy and you won't get salmonella from them. Ours was very affectionate and loved to ride around on our shoulders.
Keeping the cage clean is easy and they are very hardy and easy to feed too.
Get a rat. Look up pet rat sites & there are lots of people that have them.
I would consider getting one, but now we have a cat.

I would say any kind of rodent. I would go with a Guinea Pig, though the do require some supervised outdoor time. The Guinea Pig will need a nice cage at least 2 feet, food, bedding, toys, water.
pet rocks work as well and have no clean up!

Things like gerbils and hamsters are good, though you may have to get up in the middle of the night and remove the wheel. Or other various objects.
I'm not sure how many times my gerbil's cage was placed out in the hallway in the middle of the night because they were determined to find things to slam against the side of the cage repeatedly. lol
Fish are nice and quiet.

A Betta fish is a great pet. They are pretty hearty and even have some personality. They are kinda relaxing to watch, too.

Stay away from dogs. A cat would be a better companion and cleaner. You don't have to take a cat out and a dog needs a lot of attention.
