They are obviously mistaken because as you see, it's right there. I agree with you 100%. People are really so dumb. What makes them even dumber is that, although gullible is in fact in the dictionary, dumb is not. Did you know that? So next time, just be happy knowing exactly what word is not in the dictionary, and smile.

It's possible they don't know how to spell it correctly, or never had phonics in school. If they had, they'd know when to use "-ible" and when to use "-able" at the end of a word. They could also be trying to see if you are "gullible" enough to fall for their silly joke and look up the word for them.
For Mickey D--from www.dictionary.com (it IS in the dictionary)
13 results for: dumb:
1. lacking intelligence or good judgment; stupid; dull-witted.
2. lacking the power of speech , as in "a dumb animal."
3. temporarily unable to speak:: "dumb with astonishment "
4. refraining from any or much speech; silent.
5. made, done, etc., without speech.
6. lacking some usual property, characteristic, etc.
7. performed in pantomime; mimed
8. Computers. pertaining to the inability to do processing locally: "A dumb terminal can input, output, and display data
but cannot process it. "
9. Nautical. a. (of a barge) without means of propulsion.
b. (of any craft) without means of propulsion, steering, or signaling
10. dumb down: Informal. to make or become less intellectual (slang phrase)
11. Unintentional; haphazard: "dumb luck. "
12. unable to speak because of hereditary deafness
13. not knowing what to say
And for Stephen K:
"Dictionary " IS in the dictionary: (www.dictionary.com)
1. a book containing a selection of the words of a language, usually arranged alphabetically, giving information about their meanings, pronunciations, etymologies, inflected forms, etc., expressed in either the same or another language; lexicon; glossary:

From: American Heritage Dictionary -
1. A reference book containing an alphabetical list of words, with information given for each word, usually including meaning, pronunciation, and etymology.
2.A book listing the words of a language with translations into another language.
From WordNet:
3.noun --a reference book containing an alphabetical list of words with information about them
4. a book containing the words of a language alphabetically arranged, with their meanings etc

i feel like a moron answering this, because you're probably just looking for people to answer this question while you play dumb, but for the sake of being helpful and if you really are serious, gullible means you easily believed stuff.. and you easily believed that it wasn't in the dictionary. it's a joke.

Perhaps they want to see if you are so gullible that you will check the dictionary to see if that is true?
