You have to buy a second battery for longer time. Best Buy sells them for as little as $50, and they are really worth it.
A router is what you use to connect to the internet or a network. It can be very important if your computer does not come with one. If you have a laptop, it most likely has a wireless router installed already. You would just need a wireless router on your DSL line to pick up the internet signal.
Hope this helps.

An hour and a half is not really a very long time. Batterie charge can vary from model to model. With the laptop on let the battery run completely dead. Then charge it for 24 hours straight. That will give you an idea of what the ballpark figure is going to be on the max. Even rechargeable batteries lose the ability to hold their charge after prolonged use. If you are not satisfied with the length the charge holds after the 24 hour period consider buying a new battery. Also, when possible, keep the laptop plugged into outlet when using it. That will definitely help!

longevity of the power pack can be achieved by cycling it through a full discharge and charge cycles, three times, a lil time consuming, this gets rid of any ghost charges from short term charging.Fully charge it and time how long it lasts, hour and a half is reasonable pending on cpu load. 2-3 would be for a new pack. As other ppl say set your laptop for low power usage and hybernation when not in use for 5 mins. If cycling pack doesn't improve off charge working time then you pack is almost due for replacement. try to avoid short term charges, wai till it beeps at you then charge. you should ge about 3 yrs out of a pack if you look after it. Buy a new pack and carry a spare charged one for emegencies?
If your laptop is stand alone you don't need a router.

well they say the best way to get life out of your battery is to let your battery discharge completely before charging again and once its charged 100% unplug it and let it discharge completely again, after a while you should notice that it lasts longer, a friend of mine would plug it in when it said 50% and when it was fully charged it ran out in about 20 mins and it was a battery which is supposed to last 2 hours, so anyways yea oh and about the router if you mean if it makes the battery waste faster then the answer is yes. the battery lasts longer with wireless adapters turned off and low volume for videos and music the point is the less things the computer is doing the longer it will last :) hope it helps

If it is one of the earlier models, it used to give only that much of power. In those days an hour and half is all what you can get.
Also, battery builds up residual between charges and it loses its capacity to store.
You can tweak your computer to conserve power. It may give you a little longer than this. You may.....just may.... get 2 hours.
Alternative? The one and only - replace with a new.
A router helps you connect more than one computer on the same DSL line. There are wireless routers available - you need a wireless DSL modem installed in your laptop.

Some power saving things to do:
Dim your screen
Shut down anything extra things you are not using
Have the computer go into power saving mode after a few minutes of inactivity.
Minimize your use of USB devices while on the battery.
A router is important if you have more than one computer trying to use the same network line.

I just leave the charger on when I am on the laptop. I think my laptop only lasts for about 2 hours. I leaved it charging for overnight so I don't really know how long it takes. It only depends on the type of laptop you have

Some batteries develop a "memory"
That is if you don't discharge it all the way down
it gradually looses the ability to deep discharge.
A good computer dealer specializing in portables
can zap your battery and get most of it back...
A router does not draw on your laptop's battery.
Routers can have hardware firewalls in them, a
very good feature if you know how to configure it.

Assuming you have a Lithium battery it may be getting old or maybe your laptop just uses a lot of power,
Li-ion batteries do not need to be drained down to improve their performance....in fact Li-ion laptop batteries can NOT be drained down, there is a circuit in the battery case that cuts off the power when the battery gets to a certain voltage....Li-ion are damaged if they are run down completely..
See the link below for care of different types of batteries

if you want your laptop to go longer on its battery, buy an extra one. if it's dell, you can easily buy extras, and you just plug them into the back. i don't know how important a router is though. sorry.
