I've heard this from several people now and was wondering why & what kind of damage it could possibly do that is especially bad for hot rods...

About the only reason I can think of is the cleanup job afterwards. Most rods have a lot of chrome and cleaning it after getting mud and wet debris all over it is a pain. A lot of them do have drag slicks though which are not safe on slick pavement. Maybe that's what they're thinking of.

most people build their hot rods for use in dry sunny weather, thus they tend to use tires geared more for traction in the dry. hot rods also tend to be roadsters, and many have no top. do you really want to ride in the rain or snow in a car with no top? hot rods tend to not have heat or a/c thus the interiors are not as comfortable as the average sedan/ and then you have the show aspect. most hit rods these days are show cars not drivers, and thus have lots of chrome and polished metal that can be very hard to keep clean when used as a driver.

if a hot rod is properly built, there is no reason to limit the use to sunny warm days only.

I don't see why rain would cause problems in specifically those types of cars, except for the fact that people put a lot of time and money into them and don't want to subject them to the rain, because they usually detail the chassis and drivetrain, so they garage them and buy something else to drive in the rain. You should be able to drive a hot rod in any type of weather, just like anything else, if you want to.

most of them are set up for speed and not for street diving any way,one with a posi unit will get away from you on a wet road if your not real careful, and their to hard to clean back up,most of the hot rods you see will be in really good condition, and getting one all messed up from driving it in the rain isn't worth the trouble to clean it back up ,that's usually why you don't see many of them being drove in the rain,or bad weather, good luck and merry x-mas.
