If they are on the up and up , wouldn't they want to go ahead as to reduce suspicion of being corrupt ?

The salaries that police officers are paid are public record. You can contact the department for their schedule pf pay.

There are plenty of people in a multitude of careers that wouldn't want strangers to know their income. As the first answer said, most department's show the pay scales for the different ranks and steps on their website.

Policemen are covered by the Bill of Rights, too!

They are not presumed to be corrupt or guilty and have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
