Use a rubber and vinyl protectant such as Armor All or Mother's for the dash. Polishing your car will keep it shiny, waxing will help it last. I recommend Meguiar's but most of the name brand polishes and waxes work well. It's usually a matter of personal preference. If this sounds like alot of work take the car to a detailer. They should be able to clean, polish and protect your car for approx. $150.

Use marine wax. it fairly is not extra high priced and is made for the marine industry reducing on UV subjects which comprise oxidation. As for rubbing compound...why? If it fairly is as a results of oxidation then you definately might desire to apply a product made to be used on gel coat. 3M makes an excellent product & wax and can be ordered online or offered quickly from West Marine.

Mothers liquid carnauba wax used with a high speed buffer. It's what I used when I worked as a "lot tech" for a small time used car lot.
