Liberalism advances culture in any society. Fundamentalism is regressive. If America hadn't been liberaized, it would never have developed into the vital nation it is today...or was...until Bush was elected and brought us back to the Dark Ages.
Without access to information, and without the freedom to think boldly, and yes, without the freedom to make errors, America would have become mired in its own tired habits, fashions and mores.
Conservatism is a good economic policy and a truly lousy form of government.
It is liberalism that terrorists hate the most, because it does not keep people under the boot of authority.
A case in point---the most successful, westernized and least violent of all Muslim nations is Dubai---and it by far the most liberal with regards to economics, women, divorce and religion.
Conservative thought as practiced today by most Republicans is a death sentence for the United States of America.
Even Lee Iacocca, that bastion of corporate thinking, is ranting and raving against the Bush administration in his new book, accusing it of stifling our creative genius and giving the edge to other parts of the world.
Well put Lee!

I believe we should be very open minded but not to the point of lack discrimination (in the highest sense) or discernment.Frankly both parties have a lot of things I don't agree with. We need another party before I would every touch those buttons. If a Vaisnava came to be up for President, then I would vote. I haven't met one I would pick yet. No one has been qualified. Otherwise the country would be happy by now. They all make promises they can't keep. The Vedas tell how to run everything perfectly but the problem is no one will accept how to do it, so the world will go on suffering. God gives everything in the Vedas how one can live perfectly happy in this world, but they don't accept His guidance. He made the place, He should know how it all works. It is a matter of false pride. No one will accept Guidance from a Master. They think they know a better way. So they get their so called free will and it only creates them more bondage. No freedom at all.

There is no way I could ever consider it an insult to be called a liberal.. I am immensely proud of being a liberal, and I truly believe that the very best, and most evolved people are liberal. The Dalai Lama, is one very good example.
Well put Joe T! *sm*

No, it is not wrong to be a liberal. George Washington called himself a proud liberal and said, "I hope that America shall forever be at the forefront of liberalism."
Liberalism is a founding principle of this country.
It is a compliment, not an insult.

If it wasn't for liberals, America would still be a part of Great Britain, and we'd still have slavery.

Not really.. But people are being swayed by Republican propaganda and I think it's probably better for a politician to use "progressive" instead.. Dissasociates themselves from the word, so the dumb voters don't vote on stupidity...
