I am simply trying to figure out what's wrong with my car without playing a guessing game and wasting money. Everything else on the car is the same and runs ok except for the fact that I have a deceleration/power loss issue. I'll be driving any speed, highway or local and all of a sudden the car feels sluggish, engine light comes on and that's when I know I have to pull over because the battery and oil lights will follow and the car will be on but have no more will to go on. I got an oil change, replaced air filter, put in a fuel injector cleaner, it has nearly a full tank of gas. Fuel pump and fuel filter were changed 2 years ago, could they need to be replaced again? I stopped driving it a week ago b/c I couldn't depend on it, but now I need my car back. And no I don't have money for a new car so don't even suggest it! Any knowledgable ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately I called AutoZone and they said they only do diagnostics on cars younger than 1996.

it is worth having a scan done on ,if you,ll take it by any auto zone they will do this for free,as long as it runs and drives and can be fixed cheap enough its worth having it scanned,it may have a small problem with it,you,ll know when you have it scanned if its got any serious problems with it,the alternator could have been what caused the battery light to come on,it may not be a serious problem with it,good luck and merry x-mas.

I had an '87 Accura which had about $6000 in new parts not
including the transmission. It would begin loosing power and
after coming to a stop and waiting a few minutes, it would go
again. After all the mechanics in Sacramento had tried to diagnose it, a friend said his had been the same and they
finally decided to change the alternator . It was a diode in the
alternator which became heat sensitive and quit, My mechanics
changed mine at my request and the problem was gone!

You can check the code set by the computer as previously suggested, but a mechanic should do this as it may only point to the circuit problem so he/she may have to do other checks to confirm if a electrical or fuel pump reassure problem or something in the air pollution circuit etc. It not always as easy as running a scan for codes and replacing parts. Sometimes this works, sometimes not. A good mechanic has to use his/her head.

Take it to a Honda dealer and they can accurately diagnose the problem.

The small independent shops mean well, but they just don't have the full set of dealer tools and manuals to tell exactly what is going on. And until you discover the real issue, you may never fix the problem.

My guess is that it is something very easy to fix.

cheers.

Sure, it's worth it. Hondas usually last a long time and it's prolly something simple anyway. Sounds like it might be just a bad alternator.
