I think a lot of the old school NES games were super hard, then again maybe it was because I was only 8 - 10 years old...

I vote for TMNT for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I still can't beat that dang game!

nintendo definitely has some of the hardest games - simply because they were hard to do what you had to do. there were a few spots in TMNT that were difficult, like the ceiling crawlspace with the one tiny hole that you couldn't jump over (turns out you can simply walk over it)

but ghouls and ghosts (or whatever it's called) was the hardest nintendo game, mostly due to how awkwardly you attacked with some of the weapons.

and heroes of the lance was almost impossible - it's also one of the few games i've ever seen straight 1s for in video game reviews (most hated game ever!) - [source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/review/587335.html ]

other contenders would be contra - without the code!
megaman (original) has some TOUGH levels..
and i found bionic man to be difficult too

I think age is definitely a factor, but I remember getting so ticked playing Mario 3 on NES - I could never beat it!

Yes definitely PSYGNOSIS games, cant remember the titles accept for Blood Money and Baal. I played them on an old Amiga system many years ago.

Lots of NES games, Ghosts & Goblins drove me crazy, and any game by a company called PSYGNOSIS. The levels, puzzles, everything.
