Why are women so envious? What makes us get envious?

I mean envious of eachother? Why are women so envious of other women? Is it because they feel like they have failed in some way?

I hate to admit it, but I don't have a clue. I've asked my husband this many times, and he doesn't know either.

Some of my female friends get irate when their husbands look at another woman. This makes no sense to me because I've seen them look at other men. I don't understand why it's okay for them, but not their husbands. Very odd. I ask them and they say that the man is disrespecting them. Aren't they disrespecting their man if they look? My girlfriends say no. I just get confused! LOL To me, we are all hardwired to look at good looking people of whatever gender attracts us because that's what our brains see as healthy. A good looking person is healthy and therefore a good potential sexual partner. Doesn't mean we don't have enough self-control as a mature person to not act on it. I point out good looking women for my husband to admire and he points out good looking men for me.

I would also much rather work for a man than a woman. If I mess up for a woman boss, she will never EVER forget it. We can be a ruthless lot, too. A man isn't dangerous when "provoked" at work, but a woman can be. Women can be very cruel and sabotaging to their own kind, especially if the other person they are mad at is pretty. Don't understand this either. We should help each other, not tear each other down. (thank goodness I'm not pretty!).

I guess I just don't get it. :)

i think the question is why are people so envious. I know guys and girls that are insecure, and they tend to hate on someone who seems to be a little better off then them. i see it all the time between women and men.

Although men can feel envy too, it makes sense to me that envy would be more common in women because there was once a time when envy was an adaptation to survival.

For much of human history, women could not survive without men to protect and hunt for them. In return, she turned his DNA into little human and did most of the domestic work. Even in post-agricultural society, this trend persisited. Therefore, a woman whose man wandered off would find herself in a dangerous position (especially if she had his kid!). Naturally, competitiveness toward other females probably evolved as a means to security and, although today we CAN survive on our own, our fears may have persisted into modern day (because "un-evolving" takes just as long as evolving").

My other hypothesis is, a man can be single or even "unattractive" but still touted as a hero if he is strong, smart, skilled, brave, whatever. But when it comes to women, sexual desireability is of paramount importance when it comes to how we are judged.

Being envious is not gender specific trait. What makes a woman envious can also make man envious.

You have to be more specific....do you mean we are more envious of other women? men? Everyone has some sort of envy.... I am envious of my grandmother. Her dumplings come out much fluffier than mine and I would love to be able to make them just like she can. It will take time and patience but one day I hope to make them just as well as she can. I am envious of my brother who just caught a good deal on a Kahr CW9 9mm handgun ( the lucky butt- hole...lol) Like I said...we all envy something!

They aren't. It's nothing to do with gender, I think you are looking a little blinkered. Think of how many men are envious of eacother, bigger cards, more muscles, better girlfriends, better jobs, better at sport, bigger houses etc.

Some people are envious of other people, some aren't it's nothing to do with gender.

Every woman reacts differently towards another woman who has a little bit more money, good looks, education or whatever.
It's easy to feel envy but hopefully we can learn and make something good out of it by looking up to the woman as inspiration and then bettering ourselves.
Not to compete, but be the best we can be as ourselves.
Make lemonade out of the lemons life hands us.

Don't you think this is a bold generalization?
I'm certainly not "so envious" of anyone.
But I suppose [if I was] then it would simply mean I had low self esteem and insecure of myself.
