First of all check each garment and make sure it is washable. Then to be on the safe side wash on delicate and with Woolite in cold water. Remove promptly from the washer as soon as they are done. Yes put them in the dryer, on low, air dry will only toss them around and not dry them. Toss for about 20 min remove and hang on plastic hangars to finish Air Drying. The water causes the shrinkage if it is too hot, and yes the hot dryer will cause more shrinkage. Cottons will always need ironing, as will 100% Rayons, Silks. Polyester is a carefree fabric and usually needs no ironing, and doesn't shrink. Cotton Blends generally wont shrink nearly as much as 100% cotton. Cotton Poly is great, as is a Rayon/Polyester. Blends hold up much better.

Line dry them. The heat from the dryer not only shrinks your clothes but it also wears them out very quickly.
