I've been struggling with this particular question. My mom strives for me to believe in God, but it does not really make sense to me. Sometimes I wonder if we really exist. I find human existence really fascinating because none of us really know the truth. My dad is trying to tell me we evolved from the sea? But I have not idea what he is talking about.

What do you think about how humans got on this planet?

Try thinking of it this way.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.

Love and blessings Don

I do not believe in God or any other Supreme Being theory.

I do feel that the belief in a higher power is not a bad thing. I sometimes wish I did believe in something out there. The psychological aspects might be enormous.

However, I truly feel that we are simply energy in action. The fact that we are able to be self aware and think in terms of logic, only means that we are a different form of energy than say a cow or a tree. However, even a tree 'thinks' so to speak, how else would a tree know how to send its roots towards the water and its branches toward the sun. I am not saying a tree has a brain, just that the energy in a tree knows what it is supposed to do.

I don't believe we evolved from Monkeys for the simple fact that if we did, well, Monkeys would no longer exist as we are now the Monkeys.

The Universe is simply made up of different forms of energy, billions of different forms. When different energies collide, it can be either good or bad. Disease is nothing but different forms of energy colliding and not getting along.

How did this all start? Well, that is a question that will never have an answer to and can go on and on and on. Who created the creator and who created the creator's creator, etc...

I try not to think about that anymore. I am here, that is what matters and I am doing my part to try and use the energy available to me in a positive manner.

I believe that you should ask questions in the correct category. This is ether a science question about evolution, in which case the question is totally wrong - humans did not evolve from monkeys but a common ancestor. OR this is a question about the existence of god - which if correctly framed could be valid in philosophy.

However - there are so many assumptions within this question that it is not worthy of direct answer. I shall therefore point out the errors in thinking:

1 the two parts are not opposites. there are many (vastly more that not) who believe in both God and know evolution to be a fact.

2 'How humans got on this planet' has a build in assumption that we do not fit on this plant. However all evidence points to us being a intrigue element.

3 If you do not see 'sense' in the existence of a god, then there is no point in bothering with the concept.

4 as for evolution - read up:

I'm going out on a stretch here so stick with me.

My conception of God by definition "the" source of "all" creation. Is the combination of pure intellect and knowledge making it a supreme entity of no true anything; intellect and knowledge aren't tangible at all but do exist. This entity created the primordial atom and there you go, science takes it course. Only the source can actually make sense of these "chaotic" things which can all be expressed in some type of mathematical formula; so yeah I think God does know everything that's going to happen, and knew man would come to be. Are we alone? Only he or she knows if so theres a plan. Its all in Gods head as a big predicted logical algebraic expression. We are who we are by trying to figure it all out thats what makes us so much like God and yet so different.

Oh yeah and if evolution is true we all evolved from the sea, it was the perfect environment for the first microscopic organisms on earth which is where everything evolved from. Its all the different ways that they evolved to be better and better thats so amazing.

In order for you to know the truth you need to learn about science and have an open mind with the ability to think and reason and not believe in everything people tell you is the truth. You have to come to your own conclusions.

According to most religions, God wants to live with humans for eternity. This is obviously a big nonsense and a big joke if you think this really deep and over. Why would a God who have no time limitations be living with humans for eternity.

Was a God exists just to live with humans for eternity? Don't forget humans are nothing more than dirt from the earth and energy from God which is the soul I suppose. So, why would a God want to use his own energy in tiny amounts and then live with thes entities called human spirits which is basically God itself in tiny specks of energy.

Religion is so silly that I just can't understand why modern day humans still believe in these superstitious stories or writings from men long long ago as the Truth nothing but the very truth.

Humans are very strange indeed. Humans will for sure one day realize religions and God or Gods are men made inventions because most religions do insist that God or a son of a God or a messiah or a low ranking angel will come back to earth to save them or destroy them all and select a few to build a paradise on earth again as if the first paradise was a mistake when Adam and Eve was created.

How silly this is but no believer seem to be able to see this silliness. It boggles the modern human mind. Good luck with your worship of God.

I think there is a happy medium. I strongly believe in God. However to take the Bible as literal fact makes no common sense. The Bible teaches truths and morals, it is not a textbook. It would be like trying to find history in poetry, possible but skewed and difficult. Why can't you believe in evolution, but still believe that God perhaps had a plan that one day humans would evolve. People only argue extremes, God can still be present through science and technology.

Long answer coming on... skip to the last paragraph to get the gist of it.

I don't know WHAT to believe anymore.
Yes, human evolution has a lot of fossils, evidence, and sense to back it up, and i'm fascinated by it as well. Its pretty credible stuff.
At the same time, gaps remain in the theory and some scientists are beginning to doubt it.

Believe it or not, i don't think belief in God is irrational. The whole idea of a god thats all powerful and all good is a reassuring one. While some of the smartest people in the world have been atheists, other smart people have been believers. if the idea of god is a lie, how can we explain the miracles and phenomena that have happened... you can't deny they didn't.

Anyway, when i was younger i combined the idea of creationism and evolution. I thought that a god was the force behind nature, and since the bible mentioned the creation of humans LAST, after all the other animals, this meant that the god created humans FROM all the other animals.

but now, i'm kinda agnostic. remember, some aspects of science is kind of like today's myth. as new discoveries are being made, laws and theories are being debunked and changed.
Imagine half the crazy stuff we believed in 500 years ago, even 50 years ago, that has been disproved by science.

Hans B. ^^^^ is right, there's reasonable doubt in both creation and evolution.

Anyways, theres doubt in all of this, but choose to believe in what has the most proof and agrees the best with your own reason. Proof, unlike theory, is solid ground, and reliable. (:

Believe in GOD we are created in his likeness,
don't you think if evolution was to be believed there would be societies of evolved monkeys in various degrees of becoming human, you don't see any half monkeys around that live in houses, ride bikes, cook, grow food, raise cattle, any half monkeys that can reason & think logically. I haven't witnessed any creatures like this anywhere in the world. Do you have any friends or schoolmates who are in various stages of evolving to a human.
I know this is of the wall but i'm just trying to make a point about why you should not believe in evolution there are to many unanswered questions.
We got on this planet because GOD created us, it is not by chance that we are here, if everything was not exactly as it is we could not survive on this earth, even a slight variation of the earth's axis would be devastation to all life on earth, GOD created the world perfectly for us to live.

I believe this.- We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. That we living beings are transmigrating through different species of life until we come to the human form of life (evolution of our soul and consciousness) (Not darwinds theory)
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com Animals eat sleep mate and deffend as do humans, but we have the ability to question our existence and realize our eternal relationship with God. No other species does. If we misuse this human form of life and do not make siritual progress, there is every chance of taking birth in a lower species, in our next life. Lets not wast this rare opportunity and go Home this time.

They are not mutually exclusive, you don;t understand the debate.

The debate is whether the bible is to be taken literally or if evolution is true. The existence of god does not enter the picture.

It's ok if you don't understand evolution yet, you sound like u might be young. Take your time, read what you can. i recommend Stephen Jay Gould, he writes short essays that are really interesting.

Evolution is a fact. Like gravity. The bible has many scientific and historical errors.

Again this has nothing to do with belief in god. Darwin almost went to seminary in fact.
