hermetically seal everything up with shrink wrap, NEVER go into it..keep all windows/doors shut...basically keep it as a "conversational piece" lol. I've often wondered the same thing (my three children and husband..make that FOUR children make keeping a spotless house impossible.)

I'd help ya, but I'm currently shoulder deep in dishes/laundry...the list goes on. Maybe when I'm done (and if I have any energy left)

it can't keep be but i may give some tips:

Make a step-by-step list on your computer of each room and everything you have to do in the room. Such as, Make bed, empty trash, dust dresser, Windex mirror, pick up all clothes, etc. Then, pick a room to start on and clean for 30 minutes, then take a break and go on the computer for 20 minutes. Keep alternating until the house is clean. Once something is clean, keep it clean. Get your whole place clean and then just work to maintain it. You could also make up a chore list of chores per day to stay on track. You'll feel a lot better once you clean it up and enjoy your place more.

or u can just get a maid

Stop trying for perfection or near perfection. Go for the "lived in" look.
If you have kids or pets or a man it's just not possible. Keep the important places clean like the bathroom & kitchen everywhere eles go for pretty clean.
Here is a poem I sent out to my inlaws after I heard a rummor that someone was talking about my home.

Why our house is messy...
If you've ever been to our house unannounced more than once, you've probably noticed a mess.
If it bothers you that your visits are not our first priority, we're sorry but you'll just have to get over it.
Our house is messy because we let our kids live in every part of it.
We try not to categorize the important work they do of growing and learning as "playing,"
as if it's something less important than the drudgery we do to make money and keep things livably tidy.
Our house is messy because we don't yell at the kids to clean up their messes, unless it's just been way too long, and only then out of frustration, not because we think it's okay to yell -- we don't.
There are sticky, gooey spots on our walls because mom didn't see them as she gazed into the baby's face, hoping to memorize every precious feature before it changes again forever.
There are stains on our carpets because the house didn't come with hardwood floors, and we think that playing games and enjoying every day that God has given us to the best of our abilities is more important than scrubbing and blotting.
We aren't always successful at enjoying every moment, but we want to and we try!
If you ever find our house clean and the kids are cranky, please encourage mom to sit down and hug a kid.
Sometimes the mess bothers us too, and we'll try to clean it all in one fit of inspiration rather than spreading the work out over a reasonable amount of time.
The thing is, in a house this full of people and love, there just isn't a reasonable time to get everything done that needs to be done.
So the important things like comforting kids and spending time snuggling on the couch come first.
That's why our house is messy.
Welcome to the our home, where (we hope) a kid can be a kid!

Maybe you need to back off a bit and not want your house to stay as clean as you would like it. I was the same way and would have a stroke when someone messed it up...I was driving myself insane and turning into a screaming shrew. Pick the house up, ask your other family members to help you keep it neat and threaten anyone that leaves their stuff laying around that you will get out the black plastic garbage bag and throw their stuff away. It worked great for me. I don't have to yell anymore and my house looks fairly presentable.

I'd love to help you out, but I can't seem to keep my own house clean! I find I keep it cleaner if I keep inviting guests over. That seems to help. And my cats are NO help what so ever. The bird? well, she throws bird kibble on the floor just to watch the cats play with it. Then, my 17 pound cat, he eats it. Eats anything. I never have food on my kitchen floor, he's like a feline vaccuum! I'm babysitting a weiner dog right now. She is such a little sweetie pie! My cats are bigger than that dog. I caught her and my Bengal cat rolling on the floor playing earlier today. SO CUTE! But, alas, none of them help me clean to house, neither does the husband. Getting a house cleaner is the only alternative, but she'll just let the cats out.

There is only one way to keep a house clean once you get it that way. Move to a hotel. You can't live in a house and keep it clean.

Clean the house as best as you can. Then buy all the saran wrap that you can and cover the whole house with it. Then move to another house.

The only way it will stay clean is if you are the only one that lives there....I know how you feel I pick up the same things over and over.

Sorry I did that for my mother-in-law today and I'm pooped. She's been depressed because of some things she's been through and really hadn't felt like doing anything so this at least made her feel a little better.
