Relying on the UN for anything but incompetence and malice is a fools game. When Syria and North Korea are given the same respect as Denmark and Singapore in the UN, you know the thugs are going to win, because most people don't pay enough attention to what is going on to ensure that the good folks will win in the end.
Kyoto is a fools game, the nations that enacted Kyoto have increased their pollution by more than 20% since 1998, the nations that did not enact it have only increased their polluting output by 6.5%. So the best thing that people opposed to anthropogenic global warming could do would be to encourage national legislatures to get out of Kyoto, because joining it obviously means that your CO2 output is going to grow astronomically...

Al Gore wants us to pay for carbon credits because he owns 51% of the stock in the company you pay them to. As far as the UN, The best thing the US could do is get OUT of the UN. When the UN put Seria in charge of being a nuclear watch dog that is like getting the fox to watch the hen house

It is funny, the democrats really seem to play up the UN.
But the last Democratic president, attacked/invaded 6 countries without either Congressional or UN approval.
Iraq
Haiti
Serbia
Sudan
Kosavo
Afghanistan
The only times Clinton used the military with either Congressional or UN approval, was in Somolia and Bosnia.

It's a variation on the Social Contract Theory of sociology. Only alone can Man be truly free. But, living alone has inherent risks associated with it. By living in a society, the risks are far less there is greater stability, a longer life, and the social benefits are great. But, by living in a community, each man has to live by a set of rules, and thus give up a portion of freedom, as well as submit to the authorities if he breaks a law.
IN international relations, a similar compromise exists. If every country agrees to abide by certain international rules, and submit to punishment should it violate those rules, each country benefits through stability, economic benefit, and innovation.
Why should we pay carbon taxes? Because it's the only way to get the world to stop producing so much carbon dioxide, and encourage technologies that will limit the effects of global warming.
Our short-sighted culture doesn't have the gumption to look five months down the road, let alone fifty years. Without some immediate economic incentive, getting Americans to live a greener lifestyle is impossible.
And, yes, humans ARE contributing to the well-established scientific phenomena known as global warming.

The UN seems to do everything it can to usurp US sovereignty, and attempts to enact "laws" that countermand
US law. The UN is a front for Communism, and the eventual
forming of one world government. The UN should be kicked
out of our nation. Let the French have them, or Russia, for that matter. We did not become the sole superpower by
following UN edicts.

The UN and world court do not "substitute" US power, they suppliment and expand it.
They allow us to do more to influence other countries than our "sovereignty" alone would.
As should be abundantly clear after these last 6 years, threats of violence will only get you so far in the world.

Despite creating 25% of the carbon dioxide responsible for the Greenhouse Effect, denying its existence, and withdrawing from the Kyoto Treaty; defying the UN and preparing to send an antagonistic war-monger as our new ambassador; and hoarding 35% of the world's wealth when we represent 4% of the world's population....No let's just keep thinking we have nothing to do with it.

The US shouldn't rely on the UN for anything! The UN is the most corrupt, screwed up organization ever invented (well up there with the communist party and socialism).
