I'm a HUGE Steelers fan. BUT, all this talk about "what's gonna happen now that Parker is out?" is kinda driving me crazy. He's had some serious fumbling issues, I don't think he hits holes that well on a consistant basis and he seems to trip himself up quite a lot. He's good, but he needs a lot of "football school" work. Since the O-line has gotten beat up and tired, he's not doing NEARLY as well.

Davenport last night ran for 123 yds. What's so wrong with saying, "Its sucks that Parker is out, but Davenport can handle it!"

Thoughts?

the steelers are designed to run the football. i dont think they will have a problem with davenport running the ball. but, willie parker has the extra gear and if he can get to the second level he has the speed to break huge runs. i dont think he as a player is over rated. but he is over rated in the sense that everyone thinks the steelers wont be able to run it because obviously last night davenport ran it fine.

One 123 yard effort in a game where the Steelers were blowing out their competition doesn't mean squat. You do realize that Parker ran for more yards up until this point this season than any other back in the league, don't you? And he has only fumbled 3 times all year. It's not perfect, but that is really not too shabby. I'd say losing Parker is going to be huge. That said, you nailed it on the head about the offensive line, but guess what? That'll affect Davenport, too. So basically you are at the end of the season where every game counts relying on an unproven running back. It's not the end of the world, but it is still something to be concerned about. It is not like the Steelers are even a shoe-in for the playoffs yet. You need all the help you can get. What happens if Davenport goes down early next week? Hmm...

Parker is a great speedster but he has been doing the 1yard run two times then breaking the 30 yard run. He's a good change of pace but Davenport is more of the bruising power runner the the Steelers are known for. With Willie out the Steelers will probably pass to set up the run like they did during the playoffs in 2005.

As a Steeler fan I'm more concerned with our sudden lack of D than who is going to run the ball.

Davenport does not have the breakaway speed that Parker has. He is a back that is going to be spelled often during a game. And I dont think a back that can get 100 yards rushing almost every game with a bad offensive line is over rated.
