The Dali Llama tried to negotiate with China - not for Tibet to be a separate country, but for autonomy. China would not negotiate and attacked Tibet. The Dali Llama could have told his people to resisat, to fight but as t he spiritual leader of many Buddhists and many of us who are not Buddhist, he would not choose fighting.
When did China ever rule Tibet? The CHinese saying that Tibet is their ancesteral land and that the Dali Llama is a threat to CHina is like Israel saying that Palistine is their ancestral land and that anyone who opposes their view is anti-Semetic - or Hitler clainming that the Tuetonic German race was the only race capable of ruling Europe, and Russia. Or England saying that India needs them because the people of India can't rule themselves, or like the USA say8ing that they have to occupy Iraq because there woul,d be chaos if they didn't.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of examples, of one country justifying its attack and oocupation and enslavement of another and none of them are worth a pint of beans.
Tibetans want to be Tibetans and they want their Dali Llama to their spiritual leader, not whoever is running China. That we allowed the Olympic games to go to CHina is a travesty likely brought about because China leveredged their ownership of our national debt for our support for their games.
