I was driving it, then 3rd gear clicked funny. I drove some more, then third gear clicked funny for the second time - when shifting into it. Causing the truck to kick out of gear but stay stuck in third and have no ability to pick up speed. *like neutral*. I got it home ok, but now it sits, stuck in 4th gear. (shifting into third made no gears work, wiggling it and trying to shift it into 4th makes it stick in that gear).
So now its sitting stuck in forth. Any ideas on if its fixable?
Its a 5 speed manual tranny.

First responder. You have made my day painfully sad. It needs a new clutch too.....

Trying to fix it myself before I have it TOWED to my mechanic down south. Which will mean I'm either towing it back home or paying him $1000+.

Sure it's fixable, it's called getting a transmission rebuild.

Everything mentioned above is possible, or if luckly you may have just had something pull loose or break in the linkage. Not as bad to fix, but still will need repaired.

Good luck.

Could just be the top plate on the trans it getting hung doesnt have anything to do with the clutch disk itself

I think the best way out is a junkyard tranny. Might not be too hard to do if you're still young.

it sounds like it has broken a shift fork in the transmission, and if that is the case it will have to be torn down to repair, you could have a shop check this but its going to be expensive to get repaired,it may be cheaper to get a good used transmission for it instead of trying to repair that one, good luck hope you get it going, and merry x-mas.
