Hi, You get lots of antiviuses like norton and avg in the world which will only clean, delete only the known viruses and Some antiviruses dont even delete or can perform, say if the threat is more than 90% !! what are you going to do for the unknown viruses ?

The Antivirus technologies like Signature Based is like 18 years old technology and Heuristic Based technologies is like 8 years old Technology !!!

What is virus ?
Its just a piece of a code which can penetrate worms and harm to your computer.

How is Virus Defined and Identified ?
Only after affecting 10,000 + computers, we know that the piece of code is a virus Right ???

the sample code is taken to a lab by a signature based antivirus companies to fix a patch and want to update it with the signature database. Only then any signature based antiviruses identify a virus.. :)

Though you pay for Norton you have definitions for 300,000+ Signatures and as AVG comes for Free you have definitions for 60,000+ Signatures. You can now choose which is best for your computer security.

Norton has the tendancy to surpass many types of viruses that are hard to detect. Avg isn't perfect, but it is seemingly much more efficient at detecting problems on a computer. It has to be updated frequently, but that just shows you that the designers allowed for constant improvement and protection for your computer. In the past, norton has also been known to cause problems on computers because it has glitches in the firewall, which, consiquently, is not convenient to turn off as it disables most of your protection. Avg does not require a firewall, is free, and has far fewer bugs and defects.

Norton is the BEST antivirus software, however it can and will slow down your PC a little bit.

Now AVG does not slow down your pc as much, so its realy upto you if you want fast, or best.

I always used norton because the virus database is bigger, hence it will catch more viruses.

Neither is very good.

Norton is a huge resource hog.

AVG has poor virus detection rates and is used mostly by noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

Norton

neither. Norton: resourse hog (REALLY uses your cpu)
AVG (free): no active protection, isnt capable of deleting EVERYTHING.
my recommendation: Trend micro house call (free online service; google it)
+ Trend micro PC-cillin (50$ a year but it's good) with acive protection of course.

(BTW norton is the BIGGEST resource-hogger in the market ~_^ as the previous answer was an understatement)

Hi, you should get the Norton 360 software because once you buy it you will never have a problem. I have a store and I sell this software and I sell them all the time. It not cheap but it great.

AVG, it updates itself automatically and its free. Never had a problem with it.

When I used NORTON, I had a really tough time updating it.

I would say, as far as who they do the job they are basic equal. I have used both and now I'm using AVG all the time. It's free, it doesn't take up a lot of space and it does eat up my computer resources.

Neither. Symantec is the best one.

Norton is horrible and AVG kept letting smaller viruses in with me.
