Cashing in on a underage girl's pregnancy - does anyone else find this distatsteful??
Jamie Lynn Spears, Brat-ney's sister, is up the duff at 16... and it is possible that the father could be up against a statuatory rape charge.

Alexis, 16 is not the age of consent in the state in which she lives, so yes it is completely illegal. I agree with you that it wasn't rape as she wasn't coerced, but the law states that sex with a minor - which Jamie Lynn is - is illegal. Therefore legallt, it IS statuatory rape.

It appears you are wrong friend...Apparently not. It looks like he is born on april 29 of 1989 and her in early april of 1991. So they are less than two years.
If they had sex in Lousiana or California, he is in the clear. I am sure he was smart enough to look that up.

In my state - Minnesota - 16 is age of consent.
Many states list 16 as age of consent. Or have a 36 month clause - meaning one party must be 36 months older than the other.
If it happened in Louisiana and age 17 is consent - are you sure there is no statute about age separation? I cannot believe the state would charge an 18 year with rape for sleeping with a classmate who is a 9 months, 9 weeks, 9 days younger. AGAIN IT IS THE SOUTH WE ARE TALKING ABOUT - so anything is possible....

If she is 15-17 years old and the mail it is 24 months older and between the ages of 17-19, than it is a misdemeanor.
But, if she is 16 and he is 18, then it is fine if they are not more than 24 months apart.

I just read an article that said Spears has been living in California and that Aldridge is only 18. In California if an 18 year old is less than 36 months older than a juvenile, they may have consensual sex if they are not related...

Think a 16 year old high school junior and an 18 year old high school senior have sex after prom? THAT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I bet there are dozens of guys/girls who sleep together at most high schools where one is an 18 year old senior and the other a 16 year old junior. You cannot tell me these people are RAPISTS.

I bet many people in this forum would be sexual predators. I know I slept with a 16 year old Junior when I was 18 and senior. I dont think that makes me a rapist. We were one grade apart and had known each other for 5 years.

Well if only it was that cut and dry...
Yes, it wrong that whoever handles this girls career thought it would be a good idea to go to a tabloid with the news...(umm that blows my mind)
But, I feel like people are being a little naive...16 year olds get pregnant everyday, and in most states 16-19 (3 year age difference) isn't rape at all, 16 is legal.
I'm sure she chose to be sexual active (like many girls do at 16) and regardless of if the boy was 19 or 16 the end result would most likely have been the same. I in no way condone getting pregnant at 16 but I'm actually pretty indifferent about it. It happens, she just happens to be in the public eye with the last name 'Spears'.

it's wrong but it doesn't seem out of the ordinary. Isn't this what gossip mags in general do? The US is controlled by greed so it figures that this will happen a lot, no one has seemed too perturbed by it in the past.

i think the whole situation is absurd.....i got pregnant at 15 and there have been many many many girls before and after me at my age or even younger....no one should give a crap but just because she's supposed to be a kid idol or something that makes her special.....whatever floats ur boat i guess...
