I need to write an essay for my management class. I'd like to consider writing about how the government favors the poor more than the rich. Any info that could add more substance to my paper would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I will disagree with RKO. Our corporate taxes are the second highest in the world. There is nothing wrong at all in giving corporations a tax break. These tax breaks allow corporations employ more people....never a bad thing.
Now to answer your question.
There are no "programs" that help the rich. Instead, the very nature of our government and markets make it possible for ANYONE that is willing to do the work needed to become wealthy. The freedom's that are guaranteed by our Constitution allow "garage" start-ups to become the Microsoft's and Apple's that our nation is known for.
Another aspect of this is that many of most wealthy of citizens have their money working for them in a way that removes them from the income taxes. Warren Buffet is a prime example of this. He doesn't get a pay check so to speak. Instead he makes his money on investments, and as such, he only pays Capital Gains taxes. Capital gains are taxed at 15%, where if he received his money in the form of income he would pay upwards of 35%.
The programs that aid the poor in fact do more harm than good. The U.S. has spent more than $7,000,000,000 on the "war on poverty", yet the percentage of people that live on or below the poverty line remains constant. These programs are nothing more than legalized slavery. Every person that lifted themselves out of poverty did so in spite of the government programs, not because of them. If this money that has been spent on these programs were never taken by the government, and instead been left in the hands of the productive(non-welfare) people, there wouldn't even be a poverty line.
That is my answer as best as I can manage now.
Now on to a few of my pet peeves.
In 1848 there was a book co-written by that great lover of freedom and economic independence Karl Marx. This book lists ten areas that need to be addressed in order to have a successful communist government.Five of these ten areas are the primary talking points of all of the leading Democrat canidates for president(and others as well)
1) From those with means to those with need. In other words progressive taxes(and our programs for the poor)
2)Government control of schools. Every single increase in federal spending on public education brings along with it an increase in federal control
3)Abolition of the idea of property, and property rights. We are working towards this each and every time a new "wet lands" bill is signed, or the government takes control of another section of land.
4)Control of the nature of goods and services that are manufactured and grown The recent energy bill is a good example.
5) Elimination of inheritance rights. We aren't there yet, but our inheritance taxes progressively reach the point in which more than half are taken.
Also mentioned several times is the fact that the people have to lose the idea of individualism, and start working towards the "common good"....sound familar Hilary?

1. Bush income tax cuts only save money if you make more than $250,000

2. Bust altered tax code allowing US Corporation to not pay tax if they keep their assets off-shore

3. Farm subsidies

4. Investigate how the government subsidizes the production of Etahanol.

5. Haliburtons stock more that doulbled after its former chief executive, Dick Cheney, took the Vice-president's position.

I could go on and on.

I'd be really interested if you could incorporate the facts that show that the government favors the the poor more than the rich into the question.

Good luck on your paper!

Corporate welfare is by far more devastating for U.S. taxpayers than social welfare programs. Corporations and the wealthy elitists in this nation receive astounding tax deductions for everything from buying a customer a drink to building a new warehouse. Government grants, bail-outs, special abatements, and all kinds of other favored benefits are available to help the rich.

Well, They really do not favor the wealthy. The government doesn't, but the econmoy does, so do the banks, and other money involved agencies. One way it favors them is by just making everyone pay a maximum of medicare insurance tax of somewhere in the 5,200's, but income tax has no limit, so there is slaps them in the face again.
