My plan was to take four 1X6 boards and build a frame (rectangle) and nail it to the wall and ceiling above my bed. stain it and attach some sheer panels to it with a nail gun. this will be over a low profile queen sized bed. i built the base for the bed (using that instead of a frame and box spring). I want clean lines and a simple contemporary look.

What's the best way to go about doing this?

Don't nail it on the wall. Just suspend it to the ceiling. Use hooks to hang then it will be easy to remove it later to clean.

Instead of attaching a heavy wooden frame to the ceiling, why not just install some screwhooks in the ceiling joist in five places, the center of the canopy, and the four corners. Then hang sash chain from them to attach the canopy.
Or, hang the sash chain from the hooks, to a PVC frame that is under the canopy. This will create straight lines of the canopy, rather than a drape effect.

Just for a canopy, I would suggest suspending from the ceiling. No need really for lumber, just run some wires out from the center support to the end of the beds and let that hold your canopy up.
