I have to write a statement of purpose to transfer to a university for my undergrad degree. What exactly is one? What should it include? I have started an essay about an experience I had as a child that inspired me to become a doctor. Is this what I should be doing, or do I write about my goals? or do I write about my major, which is biology? Any tips?

A statement of purpose whould address why you want to transfer from your old school, why you want to go to the school where you are applying and what you want to do with your life.

A story from your childhood does not rally address any of that except why you want to be a doctor. Check out the link below.

The Statement of Purpose is the single most important part of your application that will tell the admissions committee who you are, what has influenced your academic/career path so far, your professional interests and where you plan to go from here. It will give you the opportunity to relay why you chose this particular school, what you will do here, and how this will benefit you.
