Freshman grades are not included in your UC GPA calculation. But it wouldn't hurt to keep good grades in your freshman year; a time for you to learn good study habits so you can achieve excellent grades in your sophomore and junior years.

yes and no. The reason why teachers tell you this is to set you up with good habits for sophomore and junior year. those really do coun the most, From what i understand UC's tend to look at your senior years and your extra curricular activites make sure your an officer in any kind of club, or part of a leadership class. My best advice, do a little bit of everything after school, they like to see sports and theatre those show discipline and if you can do those while getting good grades, that says alot about you to UC's. Hope it helps and Good Luck UC Berekly is a Great School!

Oh yes, they will if they need to. I've heard them go as far back as 7th grade.
It's rare, but they do.
Well, think of it this way, the more selective you go (ex. Yale, Harvard, Vassar) The higher chance they'll go back further. If you try to get in school with middle demand they might just look current. Each college has something they like if it be soccer or ballet and that puts on a good impression too. Good luck!

Yeah, they'll look at them especially if it comes down to between you and another applicatn.
The one thing about UC schools is that they do not consider grades for classes which are not academic. Sure if you fail basketweaving it will hurt you, but and A in it will not help you the slightest bit. When they determine your GPA they only include grades from academic classes.

Generally, the UCs don't look at freshman grades at all. I can't imagine that this would be the way they would break a tie. They would have too much other, more current, information about you, from test scores to your essays, to recommendations.

Colleges prefer to look at your middle years and what activities you have been doing. They what you have consistently good grades and will actually participate in activities out side of class. But obviously they are going to look and compare your freshmen grade to see if you have improved your grade since then and to see if you didn't bring down your GPA by bombing your freshmen year. Good Luck! Merry Christmas.
