I'm going to have to say Jessica Fletcher on this one.

But then Columbo would bang her, and solve the crime for himself...so really, i suppose the answer is Columbo all the way.

He gets 1 point for solving the crime, and infinity points for banging Ms. Fletcher. Probably while she rides her bike too...

What is this doing in History?
I remember in the early 60s I watched the Perry Mason series, but neither I nor my parents could understand a single one of them. My dad said they were frantically condensed from the books, which were difficult enough.
Watching Colombo in the 70s I could follow them. So the choice is up to you, dude.
But don't forget anyway that Perry Mason was a lawyer. I think his detective was Paul Drake. So he and Colombo did not have the same job.

I agree with the above. Colombo had to be faster. I believe there were more commercial minutes per hour when Colombo was airing compared to the Perry Mason series. Today's detectives have to be even faster with yet more commercials per hour.
Besides, Perry Mason always had to drive the killer to admit his guilt on the witness stand or in the courtroom. Who ever admits guilt these days? At least Colombo found the evidence himself and provided proof without requiring confessions.

Oh Colombo would win by far. Colombo always knows who it is in the beginning. Colombo is pretty awesome. He brings the criminals to their breaking point with his "stupid" questions and then BAM he proves they are guilty.

I have to say Colombo. We knew at the beginning of the show that he knew the perpetrator. It just took him the rest of the show to stick the guy.

Columbo. He always had the case solved before it went to court. Columbo always went to court with the case solved and a likely admission of guilt by the perp.
Mason usually solved the case with testimony during the trial.

Perry Mason was an attorney. My money would be on Columbo. He may look like a clutz, but he's observant and sharp.

I would say Colombo because he got out and did his own leg work. He acted like a dufus so guilty parties always underestimated him.
