You can always tell the people who've never hit rock bottom.
To most people on welfare its very disgraceful. Theyre disgusted with themselves for what is going on, even if its not something they could have prevented.
Many of them were contributing to it before and will do so again in the near future. Why should they be saying thank you for getting their money back that the gov't held for them for that purpose?
Of course they should be thanking the person they have direct interaction with, but only because its the polite thing to do, not because its forced or necessary. Remember, the gov't is the people, theyre taking the money from themselves as much as theyre taking it from you.

The first thing they ought to do is actually prove that they need it. Too many around this area are getting it that shouldn't be. Welfare is for those that need it, not just because you don't want to work. Please and thank you would be a nice change to " gimme what I gots comin."

The whole welfare system degrades and demeans the people involved as it is. I don't think requiring forced false gratitude is the answer to the problem.

I would like them to.. But don't think it's necessary..
Sometimes I think where the country would be without it.. And all I can think of is higher crime rates and a much scarier nation.. but that's just me.. hmmm.

How rude you are to even ask such a question. People use their manners when deemed appropriate and right now...I'm really annoyed by your arrogance. I think these needy people thank God for what they recieve and shouldn't have to thank You! Grow up!

I think they should...
Why should we the taxpayers take care of them....
Those on welfare need to get out and off of their lazy A&$ and find a job....

I agree. Welfare is the first step to socialism, so they could thank us for compromising our American traditions.
