I've heard you can feed them food out of the refrigerator but I'm hesitant to feed them any kind of human food just in case. Is it alright to feed them certain human foods and if so, what kinds are good? All help is appreciated

There are not a lot of human foods that are healthy for the turtles, and it partly depends on size.

Baby Painted turtles are meat eaters, and the human meats that work are beef heart, cooked chicken, and bits of oily fish (which will make a mess).

If the turtles are older, over about 4 years old, try dark leafy greens and shreds of carrot.

Turtles, however, prefer a diet that is more like fish food- small fish, worms, insects, shrimp, krill, etc.
