The illusion of the human condition. The very little tiny voice in the back of out head which has created religion, philosophy, war, socialism, fascism, etc... The little thing that makes us stay up at night and wonder "What is our purpose?"

"Meaning" is the tragic flaw of Humanity. It is what we spend a life time searching for, and ultimately discover it is absolutely useless. It is what our parents tell us when we are young, that we are all "special" and that can contribute to something greater than ourselves.

"Meaning" is what every institution on the planet uses to control us, whether it is through television, radio, the internet or some 2000 year old book.

The meaning of anything is arbitrary and individual. Your preferences give meaning to you. Also what you choose to dislike, has meaning for you. What you were taught growing up will have meaning for you. As an adult, you begin forming your own beliefs more solidly than as a child. But anything will have whatever meaning for you that you choose to give it. What has meaning for another will not necessarily have meaning for you and so on! It's rather like a blank slate and your interpretation as it appears on that slate is your definition of meaning for you!

Linguistically or philisophically speaking?

That element of existence which a word refers to- the "thing" which is named? Or significance, value?

Entirely different words within the language, just spelled the same way. Just like "bear" the animal is not "bear" the verb.
