It's not as bad now as it used to be. Back in 1950 when I joined the Marines and was grouped with guys from all parts of the country I really had some problems with all the dialects. I thought I'd made a mistake and joined the French Foreign Legion. I was born and raised in PA dutch country and I thought everybody else talked funny. Then I moved to SC and had to go through it all over again. I solved that problem by marrying a native.

I live in a small city in Utah. When someone says anything about "the church" we know they mean the LDS church. There are many other religions here, but the LDS is the prominent. Many of the LDS families have loads of children and they drive mini vans, also known as Mormon Assault Vehicles. I don't think that we really have an accent here, but there are plenty Mormon terms used daily.

every home town and every group in these home towns have their own lingo -- if you had the pleasure to have lunch with me tomorrow with the rest of the farmers it would be safe to say that half the time you would not understand what we were talking about -- because most time we do not really finish a sentance just spit out the few words it takes to get the point across!!! same way if you would be stuck with a bunch of military folks -- just like i am lost when i am stuck with a bunch of you ladies and you all go off on your "girl talk"

They have a Charleston dialect here. It sounds like they are speaking around a ball. It took me forever to figure out what the heck they were saying!
