I know that you can tell the difference in sex starting around 16 weeks. My doctor will not even think about looking until my 24th week. I know it will be more accurate, but that is so far down the road. I am very anxious to find out what we are having. What week did YOUR doctor tell you the sex of you baby? I think I may go to another Dr. I am not completley satisfied with this one!!!
I am 14 weeks!

That's the thing! Seems like everytime I go to an appointment he isn't in! I would have though that he would like to see me on my first appointment. Not to mention, they kind of rush you in, and rush you out!!!

I had exactly the same dilemma... I am 13 weeks too and really wanted to know the sex of my baby at my 20 week scan but my husband wanted it it to be a suprise! I have given it alot of thought over the last few weeks and I have decided to give in and wait, it's only another 6 months and i'm just so excited and happy to be pregnant. I also now think that waiting and finding out on the big day will be the most exciting way to find out the baby's sex and the bonding experience will be amazing for everyone... I really do not think that you can know the baby's sex without spoiling it for your husband, it is bound to come out by accident at some point. Whatever you decide, all the best for a great pregnancy and a gorgeous healthy baby.

We're waiting to find out til the baby comes, but my best friend just found out the sex of her baby, and she's 18 weeks.
Do you like your doctor in other ways? He's probably just being cautious.
If you don't get to see your doctor ever when you have appointments, then I would also be unsure about continuing with him!

I had my ultrasounds at 20wks, but women with no history of a genetic disorder might get one between 16-18wks on average. I've only found out the sex on the ultrasound with 2 babies though the others eother hid the goods or it wasn't clear on the ultrasound.

Most of the dr's where I'm from will look between 18 and 20 weeks. They can almost always tell what it is.

i actually asked a question about this... seems that women's intuition is pretty good at determining gender, so if you do wait, you might already have a good idea what you're having by the time you're 24 weeks... please see this for more details:

I was told at 13 weeks with my son, that he was a boy.
this pgcy, i am 22 weeks & have not had the u/s to determine gender.
and if you are not satisfied w/ your doctor, feel free to find a new one. you are paying him/her, they are your employee, you have the right to fire them & hire someone you like. just in case you were not aware of that. :)
best wishes, & listen deep down inside. while you are going to sleep, hold your belly & ask your baby to show him/herself to you in a dream. I know it sounds silly, but i asked my son to and he did. it was like deja vu when i saw his face, i had seen that face in a dream... i really believe your body has "unknown" abilities, try it, if nothing else you will be amused for awhile.

If i were you I would probably switch doc's if you aren't comfortable with them. i found out at 16 weeks and 4 days that we are having a boy, but my best friend didn't find out until she was 21 week's so it really depends on the doc. oh yeah hope that the baby cooperates with you as well mine did he was spread eagle, but not all are camera hams! good luck to you!
