The Bad News: They do look at your freshman year. The Good News: It's not the end of the world. If you can turn yourself around and have good grades your sophomore and junior years, then they will look at you as even better than someone who did well over all three years. By turning your grades around, colleges will be able to recognize your tenacity and willingness to learn and better yourself. That's not to say that your senior year doesn't matter (it does, really) but sophomore and junior are the best. Also, remember that teacher letters and essays are also vital, and if these things convey your drive to learn, then you should be good.

Some schools look at all four years of high school, and others only look from sophomore year on. Even if a school you are interested in does look at freshman year and decides to exclude you for that reason, you could always go to a community college for a couple of years and then transfer there, so your life is definitely NOT over. Congratulations on getting your act together this year and taking school seriously!

They do, but if you make progress, they'll look at you a little more positively than they would otherwise. You won't be able to go to Harvard or some super selective college (if that's what you define as decent), but you can get into college if you work harder and your grades improve.

yes but they look more at your junior and first quarter senior grades. They want to see if you started to slack or have greatly improved or if you've remained the same. Having a good junior year is key.

i know they do.. they look at your grades from your freshman year until your senior year.. but i know your sophomore and senior year would affect much when you apply for a college, not much on your freshman year..c:
