Why is knowledge power? Is knowledge really power?

Here is the origin of the saying.

I have also heard that the saying means that if you have knowledge about something/someone you are in a position to use it either for or against them, which means you have a huge responsibility to use that knowledge wisely or correctly. The other half of the saying is, "Ignorance is bliss," which means you don't have such a responsibility and can go along your merry way without a care.

Hey!

Knowledge empowers you. It gives you capabilities that do not come to you naturally. If you do not know something, you can not do it. Or not do it.

For example, if someone were to tell you that you were about to touch an electric fence, but you had no concept as to what electricity was, you would touch the fence anyway, and go through a lot of pain, if not death. Another example would be if you are visiting another country, but do not know the language. Not only could locals say horrible things to you, and you never even know it, but you could completely miss a sign that tells you of some danger you are unwittingly walking into.

Another way to show that knowledge is power, is that it gives you chances in life that otherwise wouldn't be open to you. Like, if you were born to two lazy parents who would not work for a living (notice I did not say *could* not), you would watch them and the way they lived, and you would gain the knowledge that you must work to get where you want to be. In this way, you will become a stronger, better, more POWERFUL person.

I'm not sure if that fully shows how that knowledge is power, that's an idea you generally have to figure out on your own. But you'll find it really is a good quote.

Luv ya,
Tashi :)

Well, knowledge is power just like ignorance is bliss to an extent! Sometimes it helps to be in the know on things, but sometimes it's just as well not to know. So it depends on what you're applying that statement to. Knowledge is power in positive ways but knowledge can also be expressed in negative ways. Either way, knowledge exerts a powerful force. Without the power of knowledge, you wouldn't have the world wide web or even a computer, would you? I'd rather be educated about as much as possible than not at all!

Knowledge is definently power. Some of us are a little more intelligent than others but intelligence isn't everything. Knowledge, what we learn about the world around us is everything, even God would agree. Why do you think the Fruit of Knowledge was forbidden? It was to powerful for us in God's eyes. Look at what we've made of the world, God would agree. We are just starting to take the damage we've done to the world seriously. We've impacted the world more than any other species all because of our knowledge. It is power and it can be dangerous.

Knowledge is power, I agree. It really is. If you want to accomplish anyhting in life you need to have knowledge of that thing, whatever it is. Of course there are other factors to success, but if you lack the knowledge, none of it matters.

Basically power is a means to an end and, and those who have aquired power have aquired through who they know and how to get around who they know. They understanding of how something operates, having an insight, that is deeper than another, has provided that individual with an edge....the edge to survive in a world of go getters, rat racers....and political revisionists.After-all...the more you know about a subject, the more you are able to succeed, above that of your opponent.

If you didn't know anything you could not make a good living. The more knowledge you have the more you make the more you can accomplish in life.

It is power, but a very weak source of power.

A greater source of power is desire for things and a healthy mentality for life.
