Well, I really need a laptop for many numerous things. I will be going to college soon so I need a laptop that would be good for a student. I like music, and watching DVDs/playing games would be awesome (but this is mostly for school work). If it had a webcam it would be great! I want it to have a pretty long battery life and wireless internet. That is the most important part. For prices I think anything over $2,000 is too much? What should I look for! Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

long battery life, did you mention ...

that means you will be using it outdoors & maybe lug along with you too
so portability is an angle to consider > in which case a 17" display system is ruled out

ok, we need to get some compromise solution to accommodate for gaming

lets have a look at the dell xps m1530

$2000 is an good budget to pick a laptop. There are many to chose from.

As a technician I see what brands required more repairs than the other. On the low end of needing hardware repairs are Sony, Toshiba, Dell and even Acer. The ones I get in that need to most hardware repairs are Compaq and HP.

For trouble free operation, keep the system clean and free of viruses and spywares.

For long battery life you want to order the battery with the most cells you system will handle.

Also max the RAM out to the most you system will handle.

most laptops with all those functions you want are selling below 2000$. HP and Apple macbook have them for about 1000-1500, depending on what features you put into it.

you should start looking online for the ones you want and either buy online or in stores.

some well-known sites:

hp.com
dell.com
apple.com
