I work in the ER. Three nights ago a 47 year old guy was brought in after cops tasered him and then beat him to a pulp, then tasered him again. Unfortunately, his heart stopped from the last tasering. We got his heart going again, but now he will surely die from brain swelling from the beating. Here's where the story gets REALLY interesting. Apparently the guy was beating the hell out of his wife. A neighbor heard the noise and called the cops. Since it was a rural community, the guy knew that the offender would surely kill his wife by the time the cops got there. So, he went out and held a gun on the guy until the cops got there. So, of course, he was promptly arrested as well. The guy doing the beating was about 240 lbs, 6 feet or so tall. Big boy, and strong. He did manage to beat the hell out of two of the cops before they brought him down. Nobody argues that if the neighbor had not intervened, the wife would be dead as a doornail. I saw her CT scan. She was jacked up.

By the way Hoo, if you think hospital employees act like those of the TV show ER, you are in for a rude awakening. We don't go around speaking pseudo latin on our lunch breaks. (when we get one)

Would you prefer treating a bullet wound? Tasers are great, because they incapacitate a perp, but they generally don't do any long term damage.
And you know the old saying: Next time you need help, call a rap singer.

No.....the vast majority of arrests are affected by Police with little or no resistance ---Only as a last resort will a Police Officer use a taser . Even Pepper Spray is not usually used by a Police Officer to subdue an individual who is being arrested. As a retired Detective who worked 28 years in a large City in the US ; I NEVER once had to fire my weapon in the line of duty or use a taser to subdue someone. Many people are repeat offenders who have been arrested & been through the system so many times that they voluntarilly offer their hands to be cuffed without any resistance. Dozens of assaults & homicides are prevented by virtue of using necessary force to subdue that one perpetrator.

In this situation he got what he intended to give, however if you take a look at cops today they try to dress in paramilitary fashion, and often refer to situations as us (cops) and them(civilians) as if it is a us against them mentality and that is dangerous, while doing a paper in college a few years back I was shown a mental evaluation exam paper done on over 300 officers around the country and the over whelming reason that police admitted to for becoming police was a fear and a need to be in a position of power, most police are afraid and operate from that stand point and the ones that are not afraid are power hungry, and these are the men and women we select to serve and protect, not a good idea, thank god for the few that do the job for all the right reasons.

Maybe the guy deserved it. I have been arrested many times and I have never been tasered. If you resist or fight then you should get tasered, and if you keep fighting then of course you should get it again. The taser is not what got that guy into trouble it was his actions for breaking the law and what I would have to assume was resistance to arrest. Just from my personal exp.

He's breaking the law, beating people, resisting arrest, the police are risking their own safety to ensure the safety of others, and you are defending the criminal? Are you a democrat?!

After "beating the hell out of two cops" they should have shot the sorry bastard. I say he got less than he deserved. If you don't want to be tazed do as they tell you.

Evidently. Some cops seem to have a problem handling the authority granted to them by the people.

You work in an ER and you construct your post like this?
Where did you go to school....Alabama?
Check it out.
"She was jacked up."
Was she now?
"Jacked Up"!
Is that a medical term you use a lot in the ER?
This post sounds like it was constructed and worded by a teenager.
Let me guess. You work in an ER as a janitor.
