Get a shank portion of ham Cooks is a good buy
Pineapple juice (if you or the kids like to drink it get a big can)
Can of chopped pineapple
Pour some juice in the bottom of a big pot that can fit in the oven. Mix in the can of pineapple.
Take the ham and remove the little plastic plug on the meat side and wash with cold water real good.
Put the ham in the pot with the big side which is almost all meat towards the bottom
This leaves the fat side up and juice will drain through it.
Put foil over the pan and cook at about 220 for around 6 hours.
Then cook on about 350 for another 2 hours right before you eat.
Hope this helps

I cook mine in exactly the same way. Have done for at least 30 years. I was told this way by a farmer's wife who did bed and breakfast in the north of Scotland. We traditionally have this every Christmas along with roast chicken.
One small addition - a teaspoon of brown sugar added to the cider.

as long as the meat you eat is above 140 its safe to eat no matter how you cook it. if you have alot of drippings put some slices into that and bake for about 10 min if not nuke it gently it will dry out though. what I do is slice a section down and return all pieces to the roaster for 10 or 15 min and temp the slices if ok pull them out and return the larger section while you eat. remember your temp will increase sometimes 10 degree while you rest it. if you pull it at 130 or 135 and cover with foil and rest in the roaster for 10 min before slicing temp again and you'll find the temp has increased its called carry-over cooking most restaurants rely on this method

i cook my ham by placing it in the roaster add 2 cups of water,
bake, i spray it occasionally with olive oil.
when its done i score fat surface crosswise and dot with cloves at each intersection.
coating, combine brown sugar and flour. Rub this mixture over the scored ham. Sprinkle over lightly with garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
Place a pineapple slice on the ham so that one of the cloves will be in the center of the circle. Cover the clove with a Maraschino cherry half.

I like to make my hams look fancy. I take pineapple rings and lay them on top of the ham and then put a cherry inside each ring of pineapple with a tooth pick. Then sprinkle with brown sugar. My! hasn't the cost of ham gone out of sight this year??

If it's a smaller ham, I cook it in the crockpot with pineapples and cherries on top. I've even poured in half a can of coca cola. Sounds weird but it makes it sweet and it doesn't taste like coke either. .it's good!

That's how my Mother used to cook it and it is a delicious recipe. We have been known to cook ours in a dough pastry crust which is also very good as it retains all the juices.

I don't eat ham. Not cause I'm Jewish or Muslim, but I think there's something seriously wrong in eating the flesh of a swine that's biologically so close to Human Flesh
